Hallo,

bin neu hier und wollte erstmal sagen, dass dieses Board einfach super ist. Hier findet man ja wirklich alles.

Sunnies by Peter Bullet
The book ‘Sunnies’ by Peter Bullet was written in 1994. All in all the book has 12 chapters and 82 pages. The whole story plays in America.

At the beginning of the book the reader gets some information about one of the two main characters. Detective Rebuke Pride (shortname is Dick) is a young girl, who is making holiday. She lives alone, has some friends and work mostly alone. One day she meets an old friend a police officer called Sergeant Billy Santos.
Billy Santos has a new job for her which is very important. She never gets such a big job before and if she is able to done it, she will get an high amount of money.
The only thing is that she has to cancel her holiday and start with the job. Then Billy begins to explain the job. There is a Danny Gold, who is captured by the group ‘Sunnies’. This group is a mysterious new-religious cult. There are a lot of young people who are living in freedom and love. Dick has to do an undercover job. She has to put on other clothes that she looks like a teenage girl. Then she has to find some followers of this group and has to join the Sunnies to rescue the captured boy. But first Dick meets the mother of Danny Gold. She starts a long conversation about the Sunnies and Mr.Sun (the leader of the group). The mother explains the whole situation and beg for the homecoming of her son.
Dick decides to make the job and bring Danny Gold back to his mother.
Dick begins to put other clothes and tries to meet some followers of the group Sunnies. She has put on a special shirt with a picture of the rock group U 2 on the front. She chooses it because it has a sign. Three quarters of U 2 are Christians and their songs are full of Christian symbolism. She feels sure the Sunnies would understand the sign and recognise a potential victim in her.
Then she meets two students by the ‘DIAL’ organisation. She changes her mind and says the words they want to hear. Then she gets an invite to a big group meeting of this organisation.
The names of the two students are ‘Joseph’ and ‘Margaret’. They see a victim in Dick and talking about a lot of great things, like freedom, family life, money etc.. Joseph and Margaret are talking about their lifestyles and that they are able to give Dick a wonderful family feeling, if she joins the group. Dick knows that the organisation heading ‘DIAL’ is just a fake name for the group Sunnies. So she decides to join this organisation.
Joseph and Margaret are talking to Dick all the time without a break. This is a way to influence human thinking. The both students invite Dick for a seminar in the mountains in San Francisco. They say that there will be young people from all over the world Dick could meet and that she gains a lot of experience when she wants to make the trip to the mountains. Dick decides to drive to the seminar to get more information about the group and beside to get information where Danny Gold could be.
At the seminar Dick feels very strange to keep a cool head, because all are talking so much to her and she doesn’t get a lot of sleep to think about the situation and regenerate her body. Then she gets a part of the Sunnies. She isn’t able to continue her job and she changes her mind and feels like the same as Joseph and Margaret. She feels very good, has unlimited energy and feels the love. She sees the nature with other eyes and begins to love the world she never loves before. Dick doesn’t play a role anymore, she gets a part of it. At this moment she sees her life with other eyes and cancels with her hold detective life. But then the story gets another reversal point. Joseph and Margaret force Dick and some other young people to follow them to Los Angeles and earn some money. Dick begins to ask some questions but the both students don’t answer her and always try to head on a new topic. In a car she meets Danny Gold the first time and she begins to think back to her old job. Suddenly she begins to see the bad side of the organisation and thinks back to the aim of her old job. The Sunnies see that she gets back her old thinking and tries to influence her. But she keeps cool. On a big event Dick meets Danny again and directly call Sergeant Billy Santos and tells him that she finds Danny. They create a plan how they could rescue Danny from the Sunnies. The bad thing is that Danny likes them. Then Dick attracts Danny to Billy’s car and rescues him from the Sunnies. The Sunnies see that and run to Dick to ask her what she has done. She explains them her job and leaves them, too. They are not happy about the situation. In the end Danny is rescued and Dick has done her job. She is very happy that she changes her mind and to unsnap from the Sunnie thinking. Danny’s mind is very damaged and he is sent to Switzerland to regenerate his mind.

I think the book is very good. It shows the dangers of religious sects and how fast young people fall in there. These kinds of sects use the weaknesses of young people for example that they have a broken family life, problems with family, have no money or just want to be loved(geliebt werden). More and more young people have these kinds of problems so it is very easy for such as sects to get more members. The book was good to read and I had not much vocabulary questions. There war enough suspense which makes the reading easier. When I have the time and the wish to read an English book again, I will buy another book by Peter Bullet. He has a very good English style which is easy for me to understand. The themes are interested too and conform the problems of the 21st century.

Danke im vorraus. Grüße,

Knortzsch

Hi,

vielleicht kann ich ein bisschen helfen.

The whole story plays in America. <-- ich würde sagen "The action takes place in America".

She lives alone, has some friends and work mostly alone. <-- She lives alone. She only has few friends and she mostly works alone.

She never gets such a big job before and if she is able to done it, she will get an high amount of money. <-- She never got... and if she is able to do it, she will get...

she has to cancel her holiday and start with the job <-- she has to cancel her holiday to start the new job

The mother explains the whole situation and beg for the homecoming of her son. <-- begs

Dick decides to make the job <-- Dick accepts the job. (und "brings")

She has put on a special shirt with a picture of the rock group U 2 on the front. <--- Yeah, GEIL!!! :) U2 kannste auch ruhig zusammenschreiben ;)

Then she gets an invite <-- invitation

Dick begins to ask some questions but the both students <-- ohne "the"; but both students; is weiter oben auch schon mal falsch

In a car she meets Danny Gold the first time and she begins to think back to her old job <-- for the first time

Suddenly she begins to see the bad side of the organisation and thinks back to the aim of her old job <-- schon wieder "begin".... Suddenly she notices the bad side of the organisation

and tells him that she finds Danny. <-- that she found Danny

She is very happy that she changes her mind <-- that she changed her mind

so it is very easy for such as sects to get more members. <-- ohne "as"

There war enough suspense which makes the reading easier. <-- There was a lot of tension which made the reading easier.

The themes are interested too and conform the problems of the 21st century. <-- the themes are also interesting and ...

Hört sich ja gerade so an, als sei U2 ne typische Sekten-Band :O *lol*
