Meine Lösung:

In line one you can find a simile (Vergleich) "Like a Barnum and Bailey. The simile dressed out the behaviour of the television team. It shows their clown behaviour, you can see it, because the Barnum and Bailey is a big circus company. The shows of the circus were as the greatest show on Earth. The circus was internationally famous. So the simile is to show how famous the court show on TV is. In line one you also find a alliteration "crews caravanned". The television crews went into Union, South Carolina, because there was the trial of Susan smith. The effect of the alliteration is to read the sentence easier and to make it more interesting. The intention of the writer why he used an alliteration is to concetrate the reader on these words and to underline the behaviour of the crews.

crews caravaned ist streng genommen keine Alliteration. Du hast am Anfang zwar das c, aber da danach unterschiedliche Konsonanten folgen, sprichst du es unterschiedlich aus.

"Barnum and Bailey" ist dafür eine Alliteration. Mehr seh ich aber irgendwie auch nicht.
